If anybody else wants to help with Part 2, the mine rescue, I think the most efficient next move is for either 2-3 people to tackle Organizing (Battle, Engineering) or 2-3 people to tackle Triage (Medicine, healing spells). Both of those need only 5 successes

Triage might be the simpler of the two, because it is the least restrictive. Organizing wants exactly 3 Battle successes (TN 25) and 2 Engineering ones (TN 20). Kinda wish those totals and TNs were flipped...

Digging is likely to be the stretch goal, requiring 12 successes (and no time-traveling Kitsuki to help us with the Investigation option).

Doing something about the earthquakes was given up on. about 35-40% of active pc's are staying home and the rolls and needed on part 3 are extremely difficult. Part 2 is a much more attainable goal so the few of us going out there are trying that.

I'd like to second Daichi's answer above.

After 3 rollers, part 3 has exactly a total bonus of +5 to the next roller, and to reach the minimum of 12 points we'd need at least 6 people to beat a Lore roll at TN 30 (25 +1 Raise), Meditation at 20 AND an Earth spellcasting roll at TN 25 or Dance at TN 30.

I'm not even sure we'd HAVE other 6 people to roll there. So focusing on part 2 seems much better - even if only to avoid a further glory loss to the 2 that did try to help.

I'm a bit unsure on whether Masaki would be willing to anger the Ikoma (which I imagine is an issue for many), but if I do I could reasonably get... some points of healing. If we've got other shugenja with PtiP willing to help, we might be able to get Triage done, and MAYBE avoid the glory penalty (it's not clear what happens if we complete exactly two of the thresholds, but hopefully that's enough to avoid the penalty at least).

If only Masaki goes, however, it's impossible. I figure we'd need at least 3, possibly 4 shugenja, as we need a total of 50 + 10*rollers (1 with 60, 2 with 35, 3 with 27, 4 with 23, etc).

I'm not sure if magical healing and Medicine successes stack either.

It seems fairly clear to me that they do stack. 10 points of magical healing equals 1 success on Medicine/Int and vice versa.

A rare case when the Medicine skill is actually roughly equivalent to, or even slightly stronger than, magic healing.

So Int-based mundane characters could also pitch in here.

Correct. We're discussing how to address today's business, and we think we've found natural work-arounds that won't require picking through everyone's rolls and/or making people re-roll.

We might have three points at least (not sure if others missed by less than 5). Though I might have reroll it since I used the wrong dice pool (which might matter if my failure becomes a success).

I don't believe so. We would need both of those skills rolled to check off the "Organizing" threshold, but if we just finish "Triage" (started by Shiori) we will still have completed half the goals.

The issue there is the results are explained for 'more than half' the thresholds and 'less than half', but not for 'half' exactly.
