Now you would make a Jiujutsu/Intelligence or a Lore: Heraldry/Intelligence roll to remember the year’s hype, tn 20. Precise Memory applies. Frustrated with his own distraction from key efforts, Isawa Shingo resolved to get back to work this day. And if it required camping out at the wagering hall among unsavory people, well, that was an unfortunate reality. Inglorious duty was much preferable to dereliction of duty.

Not long after starting her day, Masaki went to find a sumotori to talk about some things again (D12 MM).
Later, just a couple hours before the start of the tournament, while many went to the river to see the continuation of the Bowman's Wager, she took the chance for a last talk to one of the competitors.
Both here:

Like many court delegates, Shingo spends much of the last hours before the tournament trying to sway the notable sumai into supporting a certain Wind.
His efforts are much less successful than he expects, but not without success. By the time attention shifts to the Bowman's Wager and the sumai tournament proper, Isawa Shingo is licking his metaphorical wounds but optimistic that he has helped sway the proceedings in a positive direction.

Re: [D7 EA-D12 LA] EVENT: The Sumai Tournament
The evening's events begin with the echoing rumble of the mighty drums as the sumotori enter the arena to the cheers of the crowd. They mount the grand stage, resplendent in their tasseled belts. For a moment, all stand in unified glory, their bodies and postures a testament to the heights ningen can reach in strength, size, and comportment.
And then all is confusion. The traditional unified salute to the Empress becomes a calamity as each wrestler seems to bow in a different direction. Discernable in the mess, it seems four wrestlers (the Komosubi Kashiwado and Inazuma, the Sekiwake Tsurugizan, and the Ozeki Tamagaki) bow in the direction of the Hidden Guard standing to Otomo Keihime's right--Seppun Tomaru. The shining figure seated to the right of Akodo Sanae--none other than Doji Noriko--receives the salute of the komosubi Hidenoyama, the sekiwake Raiden, and the Yokozuna Tanikaze. And Tatsuya the Ronin receives the salute of the stalwart Hida Matabei, Miyagino, Yokozuna of the South. Both Onogawa and Onomatsu seem conflicted, torn, and instead salute the Minister of Sport.
The shock of this fractured greeting stuns the arena, and the Minister of Sport hurries forward to get matters back in hand quickly. The wrestlers are shooed off the stage, and the matches begin!
In the first of the Komosubi confrontations, Inazuma (resplendent with his enormous tattoo of a massive crab facing down a rapidly approaching thunderhead, faces off against Onomatsu. It is Onomatsu who catches the initiative, and though Inazuma makes a mighty effort to arrest his progress (39), it is the Boar sumotori's incredible, god-like strength (52(!)) that sweeps Inazuma up into the air and throws him bodily from the ring. Victory Onomatsu!! Victory for Team South!! Victory to the...Minister...of...of Sport.
The second Komosubi Cage Match begins as Kashiwado, the second most popular of the sumotori, faces Hidenoyama, the least popular. They glare at each other menacingly, but it is Kashiwado who moves first! Their collision near the center of the ring echoes in the arena with a meaty *slap!*. Kashiwado manages to get a grip on Hidenoyama's belt, but a quick downward slap on Kashiwado's back dislodges his grip, and it is Hidenoyama rushing forward that "shoves" (rolls, really) Kashiwado out of the ring! Victory for Hidenoyama! Victory for Team North and Doji Noriko!
The Sekiwake Slugfest features Raiden from the Scorpion mountains and Tsurugizan from the far passes of the Badger. The two observe each other for a moment. Raiden lunges forward with incredible speed and gets a firm grip on Tsurugizan! For a moment, it seems like all is over! But Tsurugizan does not panic, he breaks the hold by reaching down and grabbing Raiden in return. For a moment, muscle strains against muscle. Raiden gives what is perhaps his best effort (exploding twice!), but still Tsurugizan lifts him bodily and hurls him from the ring! (41-50) Victory for Tsurugizan! Victory for Team North and Seppun Tomaru!
Then came the Ozeki Apocalypse! Tamagaki vs. Onogawa. Until recently a Noriko partisan, the determined efforts of the monk, Jihen, had convinced Tamagaki that Seppun Tomaru was the man the Empire needed right now. Tamagaki uses her famed Akodo training to obviate Onogawa's guard! UH-OH! The struggle for control is intense as each experienced wrestler exchanges shoves, slaps, and mighty tugs, but in the end it is Tamagaki's warrior instincts that allow her to maneuver Onogawa out of the ring! Victory for Team North! Victory for Seppun Tomaru!
Then came the final match: the Yokozuna, finest wrestlers in all the realm. From the north: Tanikaze, the Annihilatin' Asako of Golden Barley Village! From the south: Miyagino, the Heated Hida of Suna Mizu Mura! Each saluted the other. They seemed evenly matched in bulk, but it was whispered that Miyagino had the edge in skill. Whispered by everyone but Otomo Gorobei, that is, who had many days ago staked his good name on the ultimately victory of Team North. What did Gorobei know that the Empire did not? What secrets were known to Tanikaze and Gorobei alone?
None could say...until the match began. In that moment, Tanikaze seemed to change, his tremendous bulk beginning to shift, his muscles swelling beneath the layer of fat--the definition of great heaping muscles appearing beneath the flesh! What madness was this? What are we seeing! Well, we are seeing Miyagino venture into the fray undaunted, attempting to go low and toss Tanikaze as quickly as he could, he rolls a very impressive 46 to control the grapple, but Tanikaze reaches down with his 54 (and his brand new strength of 6), to grab hold of Miyagino. He throws a wink to a certain actor in the Crane section as he launches Miyagino from the ring. Victory for Team North! Victory for Doji Noriko!
Afterwards, the dance of the Yokozuna calms the crowd as the blessings of the match are conveyed by both North and South. The sumai season is over. The Empire remains fractious, but the day has come for big men to get some rest.
