Lady Shiba Mic-drop is not the reason we can't have an emperor - and how did no one sway her to announce for Noriko at the art event, anyway? I was terrified about her doing that after the laws discussion set her up.

But really, we should all be Team Rumiko for Empress. She's learned how to deal with the Otomo, and that's the kind of hero we need right now.

And honestly, given what a circus the floor turned into, I think it was only GM kindness about posting windows that let it take that long.

We opened with "let's all make war," then suggested drawing names out of a hat- we had a fishing competition in contention.

Maybe it's just all the threads I've logged with Higashime, but I'm amazed she didn't kill anyone.

Given that the campaign name is "Windrise," not sure anyone should have expected a resolution.

Especially not once we all made it plain we're down to continue

Keihime was hardly going to accept the defeat we all wanted to hand her, Gorobei having no supporters isn't quite the death knell it seemed, Tatsuya's story still has gas in the tank...

And with apologies to Team Noriko, Team Nice Friendly Crane Lady With Celestial Signs In Her Backstory's winning the popularity contest among PCs was never going to make it a slam-dunk.

Going forward, of course, I anticipate the following-

1. Some honest horse-trading. Everyone in Team Tomaru that I'm aware of thinks Noriko would be fine, we just preferred Grampa. Team Tatsuya (WASSUP RYOICHI!) is hardly hostile to anyone. In the next game, I could see the broader anti-Keihime faction getting some traction. Hell, I can see Gorobei getting some traction as a compromise candidate. Not a lot, but some

2. Open war between clans is still forbidden, and a lot of clans signed year-long peace treaties. Plus the Emerald Legions have been ordered mobilized. So open war between clan factions won't be our huge disaster, at least not at first. Let's look to the plague, and to other natural disasters as the Heavens get good and annoyed that we're not doing our best to emulate Tengoku's inhuman order

3. The Phoenix's actions will be condemned in some quarters (mostly Team Noriko, methinks, since they had a groundswell and nobody used the refute action on anything any of them said, although Keihime's probably pissed that things have moved out of the Courts where she had the advantage) while quietly welcomed in others (Gorobei getting some time to build up his CV has to be happy nobody made a definitive pick, and Tatsuya gets some time to build his case that he didn't have this game)

Ah, worth pointing out this was not a dig at the trading system, which I really liked and look forward to hopefully discussing in detail.

This is me referring to a couple of trading moments in the game.

Me: Ok, we've got Jade, clearly the Crab need jade, should be an easy trade.
Crab: Others have already offered us jade, got any grapes?
Me: ....well I guess the Crane will be happy to turn it into jewelry?
Crab: ....welll maybe more jade, but really got any grapes?


Crane: Ok, we need dye
Me: Oh thank you kami, we have so much. How much do you need?
Crane: 1

Really, it was fun! Even if team Crane apparently brought negotiation lawyers to a game. Dang Crane bringing the best and brightest money can buy. All I've got is a dead Yogo.

I enjoyed the trading game a lot! Very interesting chasing who had what, and lining up marriages that seemed harmonious.

I will state for the record, that after providing paper to what felt like everyone in the damn Empire, the Phoenix still have 2 units

We also began and ended the game with two units of Gaijin Goods because we could never fathom who the hell would WANT the damn things- and Higashime as the stickler for law and order she is, we couldn't exactly deal them under the table even if we'd found a taker.

Otherwise, our surplus commodities are all things we either came into court needing (Stone, Sake) or that we basically took to be nice (Yams. Two frickin' units of yams )
