Questions for the GMs

Please do post your questions about rules and setting here. Very possibly you might be doing someone a solid by asking your question.
Please refrain from commenting on other peoples' questions. The thread is much cleaner and easier to use without extraneous posting, however helpful it may seem in the meantime. If you want to voice your support for someone's question, you can pm them or quote the question in ooc chat.
Thank you!

Q: Doji Minori writes, "Another question regarding house creation. Do stats get below zero during the event rolling and in the end?
A: 0 is the minimum in all cases. We don't want you to have to fight your way back up from the bottomless depths.

Do you want us to submit an equipment list with the character sheet, or should we not worry about that? (I ask because no gear is listed on the
official template, nor in Asako Emiko's example character sheet.)

Knowing what you've brought with you is probably a good idea. It doesn't need to be part of the official character submission (I know it can be bear for some folks), but we will expect you to present a list (especially of your weaponry and high-value items) in your personal forum.

To add to this - as we're not quite starting characters, do we get any extra money to buy equip with, or extra equipment, or just the starting koku + equip from our school (and whatever our advantages grant us)?
Oh, also a different question! - it's mentioned that Kaiu and Hida schools start with higher honour due to being more insulated from Shadowlands horrors, while Kuni and Hiruma are not. The Yasuki aren't mentioned.
Can we assume the Yasuki keep their low starting honour despite the split from the Crane being relatively recent?
Thanks!

I'm afraid not. We're not going to count your every sheet of paper, of course, but we do wish to keep things in the realm of sanity (nobody with a tetsubo for every day of the week, for instance), and the base, standard offerings do that.

I'm afraid that was an oversight on my part. Yasuki should be 1 rank lower than the new Hida and Kaiu levels. That is, 3.5. The Yasuki have not entirely succumbed to the lure of koku yet, having purged the Kolat, so they've still got a little bit of honor to them, but not much.

Is there a map hex assigned for pregenerated houses like the Shiozaki? Or do you want us to pick one?

We did not assign one, so you may pick if you wish. If you do not wish to do so, let us know in your PF and we'll pick for you by game start.

Is it alright if the "character sheet" for our House is linked in a Googledoc when we submit our characters? There's a lot of rolls and details in there!

Temporarily, yes, although we would still like the formatting for ease of reading / transposition to the forums.

Two questions:
Would it be acceptable to bring pets? Obviously, not the Court itself, but just with us in general?
Could we use siblings (not relevant for me) and/or cousins as marriage bait for agreements/alliances?
Third question here

Yes to both questions

Asked on Discord: Is Lore: Minor Clans a thing or do you need to specialize?
Answered: It's a thing; there're few enough, and they're small enough, to take an umbrella Skill. Emphases will cover individual MCs.

Some here, preferably before game start given what it entails, but otherwise at your convenience.
Thanks!

With marriage as an obvious thing that's finagled at court, and a playerbase steeped in a variety of editions and campaigns... how gender restricted is this version of Rokugan? I admit that I've been thinking along the lines of latest edition and more recent games in thinking of relations and betrothals as gender-irrelevant. But that may not be correct with the older timeline/more traditional feel of this game.

I wrestled with this for a bit when writing the setting. There is a tension between the categorical imperative of aristocratic societies (i.e. preserving bloodlines) and gender-irrelevant marriage. However, life is short, those times were not exactly halcyon, and why perform the discrimination of the past? So gender-irrelevant marriages it is.
I would still say that houses are interested in ensuring their continuity over generations, but that marriages for love or especially for profit can and do override that concern fairly often.

Note on this - just added a map, should've done it before linking it here! Sorry!
