The Sumai Tournament
There are 10 san’yaku wrestlers at the forefront of the Makuuchi level of sumai wrestling in Rokugan. This is the highest level of sumai in the Empire, with wrestlers having earned the right to the honorific ‘-zeki’ when being addressed.
It is extremely prestigious to be greeted by a sumai wrestler at a tournament, because it signals to those assembled that one is of the foremost rank in the Empire. Needless to say, the entire Banzuke, or roster of wrestlers, would have been involved in the ceremonial greeting of the Empress. Her death has rendered that impossible. However, there are other VIPs at court, some of whom could certainly make use of the cachet a sumai’s regard might bring. And if that sumai were to win, well, the boost to his name would likewise elevate his patron.
You have from now until the sumai championship (5 full days) to influence a sumai to bestow their greeting to a Wind of your choice. The Wind will receive Campaign Influence commensurate with the rank of the sumai, as follows:
Yokozuna: 35 points
Ozeki: 30 points
Sekiwake: 20 points
Komosubi: 15 points
The Wind will also receive half of the Glory each wrestler receives for winning a match.
You can persuade a wrestler by making a post to this thread in which you interact with that wrestler, and in which you successfully make a check to influence them. A success on that check is 1 influence point. Every 2 called raises earns another. This post does take up a timeslot, and you should indicate in your post which timeslot you are using. A particular wrestler can carry on multiple conversations per timeslot, so do not worry about overlap with other players.
Each wrestler will have their own difficulties and rolls. To learn what they are, you should probably look into who the wrestler is and what he’s about by making a Jiujutsu/Intelligence or a Lore: Heraldry/Intelligence roll to remember the year’s hype, tn 20. Precise Memory applies. Please post such rolls to your PF for a response.
Alternatively, you could ask around with a Courtier/Awareness or Jiujutsu/Awareness check, tn 15. If you are asking around, please make sure that you cite where, in character, you have made your check while linking it in your pf.
The Banzuke is as follows:
South
Yokozuna: Hida Matabei (“Miyagino”), of Sunda Mizu Mura [6 Tatsuya, 4 Gorobei]
Ozeki: Daidoji Eichi (“Onogawa”), of Mura Sabishii Toshi [2 Noriko; 2 Tomaru]
Sekiwake: Yogo Natsuo (“Raiden”), of Ryoko Owari Toshi [20 Noriko; 15 Tomaru]
Komosubi: Hiruma Genseki (“Kashiwado”), of Shiro Hiruma; [18 Tomaru; 16 Tatsuya]
Heichi Ai (“Onomatsu”), of Shiro Heichi. [7 Tatsuya; 7 Noriko]
North
Yokozuna: Asako Haruo (“Tanikaze”), of Golden Barley village [6 Noriko; 5 Tatsuya]
Ozeki: Ikoma Hana (“Tamagaki”), of Foal’s Folly Village [18 Tomaru; 11 Noriko]

We will update this post at day-flip with the current influence levels for each wrestler.
