Day 7 Theatricals interest check & planning

Theater show! Day 7! Let's go! (edit: Note also that because of the D5-6 compression, Day 7 is effectively only the 5th IC day.)

I, uh, made the assumption that other players might want to participate in this. It is now Imperially sanctioned and will take place in one of the Afternoon time slots on D7. I have a rough plan for making it work without hair-tearing.

Luckily, Noh plays are relatively simple to adapt for our use, with a small number of characters each (sometimes as few as 2 but can be more) and short plots that are not too complex, relying more on the audience's familiarity with myth and history rather than asking them to follow an intricate twisty story. They are also integrative, involving singing, dancing, and playing music in addition to acting-as-impersonation.

A typical performance could involve multiple shortish acts, i.e. separate plays thematically linked. Serious Noh acts would alternate with Kyogen acts, which are comedy/slapstick skits. (If you happen to have seen modern real-world Noh, you might be aware that it's performed v-e-r-y - s-l-o-w-l-y, but that wasn't the case in its early days, and I am going to assume it isn't in 5th-century Rokugan either.)

All that means, I think, it won't be too hard to make room for everyone who wants to take a turn in our show. We can put in as many or few acts as we need to account for how many people want to join (within reason). In theory, if people want to roleplay "rehearsal" scenes, they can do so with the smaller groups for each act rather than having to have a huge crowd scene.

IF YOU WANT TO PARTICIPATE:

We can use this thread for general chat and discussion (please do), but I've also specifically created a google sheet where you can sign up if your character would like to be in the show! I've included options for the different elements of the performance so go ahead and indicate what your character might want to do or not do. If enough people are excited about comedy, we could have a kyogen act between the Noh acts!

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing

It is okay if your character doesn't have a giant dice pool. Having fun is the point. D7 will also be into session 2 so you'll have time to pop 1 XP into Acting or something if you want to!

After... a while, I'll figure out how many people we've got and pick a couple of classic plays to s̶t̶e̶a̶l̶ creatively adapt. Open to suggestions. Fire away!

Why have only one Kakita Artisan when you can have two?

Happy to assist. But will also stand aside to allow non-Crane to enjoy some play-acting if the numbers get unwieldy.

Daichi has no interest in acting, but he could probably be convinced to help out in other ways if it's needed.

Ryusei is sorely lacking in the talent department, and will save his direct involvement for if the Crab hold a Draw-Lot... but he'll be pulling for you

If you need someone to stage manage, he's got some skill in bossing troops around <_<

You can probably fake it without skills, too, if you don't want to spend the XP! High awareness will get you pretty far.

Draw-lots aren't canonically invented for several . . . centuries in this timeline I believe.

/edit

Also, update the googledoc with your interest please! Currently this is just a two KA affair and we will take over the galaxy if you leave it to us . . . . >_>

Honoka has mentioned interest IC to Arai - no (current) ranks in acting but she has voice, storytelling and a good rank of awareness so could join as an actress if people are lacking!

I mean, in theory the two KA could put on a complete single act with one waki and one shite on our own and hog all the limelight, so it's really about whether you have an OOC desire for your PC to be involved (even if ICly they roleplay being dragged into it).

I'd be happy to help in some way.

She can memorize lines. Calligraphy for props?

Perhaps recall precisely how a play was staged previously?

There's usually a chorus of chanters, so singing along is useful if you want to sign up for that!

As a reminder to folks interested in jumping in without the skills, Acting and Singing use Awareness. Dance and playing musical instruments are generally Agility. So if your trait is okay you can generally get by.
