You have a choice to make. You can reveal to the Inspector that this is a smuggling vessel, which will probably kill the Mantis, but Inspector Kureshiro will transfer you to his vessel. You’ll skip Event III and head straight to Event IV. Or you can decide to help with the coverup, taking an honor loss but opening up the options of Event III.

I don't think Ryoichi can help the smugglers break the law. Please let me know if this is a big problem for anyone else on the team.

Hmmm, well the Mantis are filthy criminals Sae is also generally against letting people on her side (more or less, sorta) be brutally murdered for expediencies sake.

I see there is an option to tell the inspector to just piss-off, and then we have to confront some guards in Papers Please and Pass a TN 30 roll to get them to let us continue on our way? Seems like that complicates things but might be one of a number of avenues to maybe not let the Mantis die?

Only Sae or Ryoichi could do the 'rebuff Inspector Kaneshiro' route. I'm fine with it but I have a feeling the Governor is gonna be harder to shake off. I could likely get the TN30 roll done to get past Shosuro Hino without too much difficulty though to dodge the Governor.

Also uh...if people want to avoid honour loss things I can do them. Because I'm totally not dishonourable or anything

Make your introductions in character. If you are cordial, make an Etiquette (Courtesy)/Awareness roll against a TN of 15. If you are confrontational, make a Courtier (Manipulation)/Awareness roll at TN 20 or Intimidation/Willpower roll at TN 25.

Ryoichi plans to be cordial and roll Etiquette, he is pretty good at it (9k4). I don't think he'd be good at rebuffing the Inspector, his Intimidation/Willpower roll is 4k3.

Make a Commerce/Intelligence roll at TN 15 (Inspector Kaneshiro is not actually all that good with figures), a Forgery/Reflexes roll at TN 20, or a Sincerity (Deceit)/Awareness roll at TN 25 to get the ship’s papers in order quickly, or at least to snow Kaneshiro enough that he fails to recognize what’s in front of him.

Ryoichi has 1 rank of Commerce and 2 Intelligence, so with Benten’s would roll 3k3 at TN15, void point for 4k4. Happy to let someone else make that roll if they’re better.

Ryoichi Can’t Lie so will probably mess up any attempt at Sincerity (Deceit) and I think he would have to reveal the smugglers to the inspectors in Stage III.

No problem with letting the not-a-ninja do the dirty work.

But I think I would lean towards Rebuffing Kaneshiro, and then take the consequences when they pop up. (unless that means we have to Perform/Awareness xD)


For Commerce/Intelligence, with a Void for skill, Sayomi is 5k4, or 5k5 if just regular +1k1.

Sayomi technically *can* lie (doesn't have Can't Lie), but will only do so if no other option.

I got confused at first but basically:

We start at Surprise Inspection. One person handles stage one. The options:
a) Be cordial:

• 1) Etiquette (Courtesy)/Awareness roll against a TN of 15. If pass we (aka people not talking to the magistrate) get 2 shots each at option 3 on this part. If fail, need an extra raise on part 2
• 2) Expediting Paperwork: Commerce/Intelligence roll at TN 15 (Inspector Kaneshiro is not actually all that good with figures), a Forgery/Reflexes roll at TN 20, or a Sincerity (Deceit)/Awareness roll at TN 25. If failed part 1 this is where you need to call a raise
• 3) These are Not the Crates You're Looking For: we can either
  - Reveal the Mantis smuggling (in which case we go straight to Event 4 with the Governor so not recommended
  -Cover stuff up. If we passed part 1 everyone who didn't do part 1 gets to roll twice. Three successes total needed

b) be confrontational:

• 1) Courtier (Manipulation)/Awareness roll at TN 20 or Intimidation/Willpower roll at TN 25.
• 2) someone with status/influence 4 or more tells Kaneshiro to bugger off
• 3) proceed to Part C here

Okay. Does Sae have a good roll for Courtier/Awareness or Intimidation/Willpower? Since she's both Status and Influence 5.

For the courtier/awareness TN 20 it would be a 6k3 base, 6k4 if Bentens applies, 7k4 with void if not.


Those have an 82%, 93% and 97% chance of hitting the courtier roll respectively.

I don't think Benten will apply because it's introductions rather then convincing people (also Cearnach has been pretty good at stating where it is or isn't allowed on this event).

In theory this thread is the only thread on 'd4' so I think we would have void points back for the next part
