Art Festival Interest check and planning

Hi everyone!

We're now considerably close to D8 - and with that, the Art Festival approved in court on D2. I'm still worried that I'll have less time than originally intended, but I'd like to get things organised so this can happen, so here goes.

I'm setting up this thread to note current ideas and check who is interested in participating. Hopefully at least one person from each clan (but I'll be happy with whatever we get!).

The Phoenix have also proposed to record the festival in a book - if you want to discuss anything related to that here, please feel free!

Other than that, If anyone has further suggestions or ideas, those are always welcome!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Date and Time - D8 ME
The current plan is to hold the Festival on D8 ME - some time after events, not so late that it would mess with schedules.

Theme and dynamics
The theme will be as strictly approved in court: 'Strength in unity and diversity'.

In keeping with what was proposed in court, and to support the theme of unity and diversity, the festival will be organised so that
'Each Great clan represents another Great Clan.'

Who represents whom?
To make that happen, I've rolled on Sakkaku to randomly assign which Great Clan will represent each other in a 'closed chain' of sorts (so that there's no repetition and no clan remains 'alone'). The rolls are copied at the bottom of this post.

The results:
  • The Scorpion will represent the Crab
  • The Crab will represent the Phoenix
  • The Phoenix will represent the Lion
  • The Lion will represent the Crane
  • The Crane will represent the Dragon
  • The Dragon will represent the Scorpion

Lots of interesting opportunities here! (Hopefully to represent the other clan's values and strengths that contribute to a strong Empire... but one never knows :lol: )

The Empire (and possibly Imperial families) and the Ki-rin could also be included in some way in all pieces - possibly adding value and interest to the pieces presented.

If someone wants to include something honouring Minor Clans (or Great Clans who do not participate), that could be an option too - as long as the Great Clan your clan is supposed to represent is not forgotten!

EDIT: That said - the GMs kindly informed that the Minor Clans will be participating in their own way!

Rules for the Festival
I'm planning on setting up a 'Displays' thread for each participant to post their work(s) and an associated roll. I imagine the pieces could be prepared either on D7 (after the clans are assigned) or on D8 itself, before or during the Festival.

Performances would have to happen during the Festival, of course - but I believe also adding them to the 'Displays' thread is easier.

Another thread would be made for conversation and RP during the Festival.

---------
Random assignment rolls:

Who does who in the Art Festival? Choosing starting clan: 1- Crab, 2 - Crane, 3 - Dragon, 4 - Lion, 5 - Phoenix, 6 - Scorpion | 1d6 ⇒ 6 => Starting clan: Scorpion

Who does who in the Art Festival? Step 1 - Who does Scorpion do? 1- Crab, 2 - Crane, 3 - Dragon, 4 - Lion, 5 - Phoenix | 1d5 ⇒ 1 => Scorpion does Crab

Who does who in the Art Festival? Step 2 - Who does Crab do? 1 - Crane, 2 - Dragon, 3 - Lion, 4 - Phoenix | 1d5 ⇒ 4 => Crab does Phoenix

Who does who in the Art Festival? Step 3 - Who does Phoenix do? 1 - Crane, 2 - Dragon, 3 - Lion | 1d3 ⇒ 3 => Phoenix does Lion

Who does who in the Art Festival? Step 4 - Who does Lion do? 1 - Crane, 2 - Dragon | 1d2 ⇒ 1 => Lion does Crane

So Step 5: Crane does Dragon
And Step 6: Dragon does Scorpion

Yuna would participate. (Flavor-wise, I'm thinking a collaboration between herself and NPC Dragon delegate artisan Mirumoto Kichinitonda », who also does calligraphic art.) Maybe we can ask about 'group project' concept.

She could also potentially assist with making sure the book is library ready, using her librarian skillset. (That's just a 'flavor' skill.)

I wouldn't mind doing a story for the festival if such is welcome.

On collaborative projects - I suppose we could use collaborative rolls, with Artisan NPCs maybe contributing 1 - but rolls are mostly for fluff, so I wouldn't sweat it on the rules front.

As for forms - the pitch in court was to celebrate *all* art forms (well, all art forms appropriate to show in court at least :oops: ), so stories are definitely welcome.

A story is one of the easier art forms to capture in a book! It's perfect for this venture.

With that, only Crane and Lion to go.

If we get an answer from them, I'll go ahead and do the assignments already to make things easier :)

I'll throw something in--poetry or calligraphy or mask carving for Shinnosuke. I suspect other Crane might also join if you make us a spot, but here's a guarantee of at least one.

More than one entry from the same clan is definitely welcome - both will represent the same clan, but the different ways of doing it will be an interesting addition! So, you know, the more the merrier. Applies to you too of course, Daichi!

I also don't think it's a problem for more than one person to use the same art - although if we can get variety, that does make the festival that much more interesting :) This thread is a good place to organise that as well I guess.

With at least one person from each clan being in, I'll roll for the 'who does who' and place it above when not phone posting.

Much to my chagrin, I hadn't really thought about how monks could fit in :oops:

But it wouldn't be right to deny a place for them, so Masaki will suggest the monk to create a piece focusing *mainly* on the theme of 'strength in unity and diversity' - if possible featuring all the Great Clans in their unity for the empire.

How's that sound? :)

The current plan is to get the Displays all on view on D8 ME.

Although I suppose extending until EE, or possibly starting earlier, could be a possibility. Just thought having a specific timeslot could work better for RP.

Random assignment rolls done!

Please take a look and feel free to start planning your pieces to (hopefully...) celebrate your sibling clans - by yourself, or maybe discussing it with your clansmates!

Restating the results here for reference:
  • The Scorpion will represent the Crab
  • The Crab will represent the Phoenix
  • The Phoenix will represent the Lion
  • The Lion will represent the Crane
  • The Crane will represent the Dragon
  • The Dragon will represent the Scorpion

Just confirming that ME is still the D8 slot to hold.
