Eiji had hustled over when the Crane called him over.

Eiji released a breath he had been holding in. He had actually had considered the possibility she had used poison as well.

"It is written Doji-san, that a key step of treatment of poison is the same for preventing duels. You need to remain calm." he offered.

He shook his head.

"I am no doctor, but the only poison I see here is hatred. It flowed from her heart and into her swordarm, leaving Akodo-san badly injured, but fortunately alive."

[Doji Hikaru]

Hikaru lets out a sigh of relief. "Forgive me I just...don't understand it Eiji-san. I was there. She allowed insults to flow fast and free to the point where Shinomura might have permanent harm to his reputation had he remained silent."

He is silent "I am not so virtuous as to have never felt hatred. But what has this achieved for her? Found lacking by the heavens, shamed for her act and walking away with nothing in return? If one was to do something like this I have to wonder the point."

Kozume looks up from where he is treating Shigehiko.

"Kid, you ever been in a war? I mean a real scrap with another house or clan?"

"She wants him dead. She would have preferred a shi duel, but without the grounds for it, she decided to throw away honor to reach for it. Then he struck first, and having already made the decision to kill him, she went ahead and tried to kill him anyways. And when Hida-sama ordered her off the field, she intended to keep trying to kill him before you stepped in Doji-san." he explained.

He looked at the fallen Lion.

"I am not certain that a similiar rage is not also contained withing the affable nature of Akodo-san. Had she not turned as she had, that strike could have been lethal. And given her admission of having killed his sister, I'm not sure I can find myself in me to blame him for what might have been. A duel where both give in to rage is a tragedy."

[Ikoma Honoka]

"Princess Honoka," Kinuyo spits, "they needed to know. Come after us, and we'll cut you harder than you could possibly. Would have been better had he been trying to kill me. The Crane robbed me of that. But still, I think the message was received."

"The message being Kamoshita lacks both courage and honour? Perhaps if you had any skill with the blade you wouldn't have both lost and shamed the house in one swing. Do you truly think Uncle will keep defending you?"

Honoka crossed her arms.

"The only message received here is that the honourable route is not the way. I've been pushing our star higher and you keep dragging it back down. If you need to send a message, don't send it with the eyes of the Empire watching our failures."

"Who failed? I did precisely as required. If uncle wants me to die to send the message that we will make our neighbors bleed three times as hard for any strike against us, then die I will. The Empire can go hang. I am going home to get ready for them."
