[D5, LM-LA] Event IV: The Long Wait Lengthens

Post by Cearnach » Thu Apr 25, 2024 2:45 pm

The people in the Governor’s palace are unfailingly polite. His waiting room is very well-appointed, with excellent art pieces of a variety of kinds: sculptures of horses, a painting of a mountain shrine, a babbling fountain. The first hour of waiting was, in some respects, quite stimulating.

But the wait has dragged on, with junior samurai dropping in every hour on the hour to tell you that the Governor is not quite available, but certainly will be in the next twenty minutes. They are very apologetic, but there’s simply nothing that can be done.

Or is there?

You may either take the path of Earth and endure the wait, or take the path of Fire and erupt. If you have the Brash disadvantage, you must roll to resist your disadvantage. If you fail, you must take the path of Fire.

Earth
All you gots to do is wait! Except this governor is totally blowing you off and the fountain is kind of triggering your bladder. Each character should make an Etiquette (Courtesy)/Willpower or Stamina roll at TN 20 or a Meditation/Void roll at TN 20 to keep your mind at ease. If you fail, the wait has gotten to you, and your TNs in part V increase by 5 to reflect your annoyance. If you succeed, you can be calm, cool, and collected in the presence of the Governor of Ryoko Owari.

Fire
You’ve had it, and it’s time to blow this Popsicle stand. All you’ve gotta do is leave the palace. Shouldn’t be too hard.

Make a Stealth/Agility roll at TN 35 to simply sneak out or a Courtier (Rhetoric)/Awareness roll at TN 30 to construct an argument that lets you withdraw from the expectation of a meeting with the Governor.

Characters choosing Stealth are only able to sneak themselves out. Other characters will need to make their own arrangements. A Character choosing Rhetoric will be able to argue for the whole group. A failed Rhetoric argument will add 5 to the TNs in Event V. A failed Stealth check will still get you out of the palace, but will trigger the “Somebody’s Watching Me” rules in Event VI.

Advantages: Benten's Blessing [Courtier (Rhetoric)]
