Sae offers her sincere condolences. Sure the guy worked at a pork store...but still, he'd also apparently been willing to volunteer to protect his community. Honour in the least likely places.

She asks the Firemen to get an eye out for their missing comrade (even if the impression she gives is he may no longer among the living) before turning back to her companions with a raised eyebrow.

Ryu was frowning deeply when Sae turned to look at him. Even more deeply than usual.

"It hardly seems connected with the fire at all. Some sort of misadventure..." Ryu shrugged. "I can't see how this leads to the fire being deliberate."

He grimaced, shaking his head. "We should check at his other work, just to make sure he didn't show up there. Perhaps that was the last place he was seen?"

Sae gives Ryu a long look before nodding with a sigh.

"Yes, you may be right. Despite the, well the everything involved it would be remiss to not at least check. I will purify myself later."

She straightens and starts towards the pork store! A classic case of a crime leading to the appearance of pigs.

Sae takes a deep breath.

"I suppose I have been in worse places."
Usually not without several actual corpses.

"Could I ask you to do the honours? I am sure the people working here are perfectly decent, but they might respond better to your touch."

With only a brief hesitation, Ryu would enter the pork store to find an employee. All he really needed to know is if the missing fellow had been by here. Of course, Ryu would also keep his eyes open for anything else...

Unfortunately, the pork store seems to be having some trouble of late. It seems that our missing man was a core member of the team, and operating without a replacement has been very difficult for the staff. Their story, however, checks out. He wasn't any more out-of-sorts than the other peasants in the neighborhood, but he was simply never seen again after the fire. They can't quite figure out why he would have just up and left like that.

"It's odd. Very odd." He said, frowning. "I agree that it seems most likely that he suffered some other sort of misadventure. Most likely someone else with ill-intent."

He looked to Sae. "How far did you wish to pursue this, Miyahara-sama? I begin to think that this is something for the city guard, not the Emerald office."

"We certainly cannot stalk every alleyway and backyard in the Eye looking for a corpse. Let us pass word to the locals to be on the lookout for this man and to report any sightings or bodies.

Either something will turn up, or it won't. I will leave some funds for his wife though. All this chaos in the middle of winter is no time to lose a partner."
She shakes her head sadly.

"Thank you for accompanying me on this ultimately fruitless chase. But I take some comfort in having made the effort."

"I expect so, and I will be counting on those sharp eyes to alert us to anything else that is...odd. This may not be the last of whatever this is. Still, hopefully anything in the future involves less pork."
