Eiji was aware that the the Ikoma children were preparing for their final speeches, but the thought of politicizing this? It didn't even occur to the honorable Eiji. Risking the future of Lion children who hadn't even had their gempukku yet merely to score some political points? Only the most dishonorable, grasping sort of people had those kind of thoughts.
No, what was really on Eiji's mind this afternoon was Ikoma Hana (“Tamagaki”), of Foal’s Folly Village. Eiji had heard that they were an impressive sumai and he knew they were a Lion, but all he could think of was Ikoma Hanako who had retired from the sport some 50 years ago. While that would have made for a memorable match, Eiji was pretty sure that's not who was going to be competing.
So he navigated the market, hoping the locals might be Ikoma Hana fans to give him some insight into what he might say to the sumai other than 'Hey, you're a Lion, I used to be one too!'
21 vs 15, Pass!
