(D4 EE) What's in the Box?!

Masumi finally came back only to find some letters that had gone so forgotten for so long. While they might have been addressed to Sae, that didn't meant that she couldn't take a peak. Her name was in on it too! She was on the case!
There're going to be heads in here, aren't there? Well it wasn't the first time she'd encountered death. She propped open the crates without delay.

And, indeed, two heads stared back up at her. They were adult heads, male, grimacing. The hair had become a little ragged, probably from whatever ordeal had ended with them being here, but judging by the bloodstains on the bottom of the crate, they had been put in rather fresh.

Why not put a warning on the dang thing? Masumi massaged her forehead then put the lid back on. This was going to get a bit gross by the time Sae got back. In the meantime she took out the other letter. It was a bit odd to her that the confessions weren't already attached to the box but questioning that would come later.

The confessions seemed to be that these people, servants of the Scorpion clan, thought that they could raid Doji Noriko's room to steal information about her support and flog it to one of the other Winds, or possibly Ikoma Ryota. The plan does not seem terribly solid, but then, these weren't terribly competent guys. There is an attached affidavit from Bayushi Kaguya attesting that these men confessed in her presence prior to their summary execution for their betrayal of the Scorpion clan's trust and general criminality.

There was little chance that these servants had written it themselves... Unless Rokugan had a really good literacy rate. Even then, she still didn't like the look of it. She mostly didn't understand why the letters seemed to have been sent separately. Not being an ink expert, she could hardly deduce when each note had been written.
It would have been much better if they'd allowed us to question them. Masumi sighed then placed the contents back where she'd originally found them. While she didn't want to have to rope her superior's cousin more into this, that was probably better than waiting for the heads to become... Less recognizable.
This conclusion was much too clean for her. But was it the grumblings of a fresh yoriki or was she right?!
