[Yasuki Masaki]

Masaki had become something of a client at the Minor Clan embassy, it seems. Not that long after her last meetings on the day before, she comes to their threshold again, politely as ever, this time asking for Suzume Ryobu.

The Sparrow gives a bow from where she sits, saying "Yasuki-san, do come in" and gesturing to a cushion. "Have you eaten rice today?"

Masaki gives her a deeper bow. "Good morning, Suzume-sama. Inari-no-kami has granted his blessing today, thank you." A nod with a small smile. "And thank you for receiving me."

She takes the seat offered, instinctively keeping the fan on her right hand. "The Crab Clan is happy for the chance to reaffirm our friendship with the Younger Clans, especially our neighbours."

Perhaps a bit late in court - but three players can only do so much XD

The answer comes with a continuously friendly smile. "Not from our side, as our efforts for extended peace and collaboration between clans in court have hopefully shown. Given the interesting times we live in, it is always good to reaffirm friendships and strengthen them, however, ne? So, if there is something within our reach to increase our collaborations with our neighbours, we would be glad to do so."

I'm always a bit confused with Contested rolls - apparently the usual thing for (unlikely!) ties is to reroll them?

In any instance where there is a tie on a Contested Roll, and the circumstances of the roll are such that a tie is not a viable option, the players involved must immediately re-roll the Contested Roll. Multiple re-rolls may be made if subsequent ties are the result (although that is statistically unlikely!).

But your call! I'm not sure what 'tie being a viable option' would mean in this case... except for a failure maybe XD)

"It is always a sad day when friendships falter - perhaps doubly so when it occurs due to misunderstandings." A nod, the smile still there, but more serious now, somewhat apologetic. "So this one is glad we have avoided one - and offers apologies that one might even be on the horizon."

Another nod and the smile widens slightly again. "What we hope the most from our honourable neighbours is to see them thrive, each in their own way. Even when the cirscumstances of duty may make that harder, as we understand well in our own position. So, if Suzume-sama allows, I would first ask a similar question of you before we even think of asking anything of the Sparrow. How could the Crab best support our honourable neighbours, so that our friendship and your people may both grow stronger?"

"Most of those which we did have are unfortunately already being discussed in other talks. If something changes, I would be happy to let Suzume-san know. But we do have some red-hued metal [Copper] we would be ready to offer."

A small pause, she fans herself for a moment. "Poor harvests are a worry we understand all too well, sadly." Another small pause. "We have found access to a reasonable amount of prime quality fish for next year. We know all too well that a bowl of ayu will not taste the same without rice, but perhaps Suzume-san might consider that as a way to keep hunger at bay?"

"If there are no other offers, I imagine we might be willing to consider that." She thinks for a moment. It would need a trip down memory palace to make sure. "If there are any other offers the Sparrow would be willing to make, we would be happy to consider them as well, of course."

A nod. "Oh. There is in fact one other matter I would like to discuss. We have been holding talks with the Scorpion and others about plans to increase the presence of Emerald Magistrates in the region where Scorpion, Crab, Fox and Sparrow lands meet, in the interest of improving overall security in the region. Although the River of Gold, perhaps the main source of concern in the region, does not directly cross Sparrow lands, we still believe this proposal could benefit the Sparrow, so I would be happy to hear your thoughts on this matter - and if the Sparrow would be interested in supporting our efforts in this."

"From what I understood, the arrangements currently under discussion provide for one station, near the area where all four clans meet. But if this first step is taken, I can certainly see further improvements to the region as future steps - Suzume-sama's support to achieve that will be most welcome, of course."

A nod.

"The current state of our conversations with other clans might allow us to provide a relatively small amount of Copper to the Sparrow - as well as fish, as I noted, should that be of interest. Hopefully that might be enough to cover at least some of your needs? Or are you looking for a larger amount?"

The Yasuki nods again. "I must confer some matters with my delegation, but it is well possible we might be able to provide [2 units of] Copper - and fish, as mentioned. Now, paper might be of some use to us - but there are always other ways in which friends may be able to help each other." A faint, gentle smile. "But only if one both are willing and happy with the arrangement, of course - as friends do."

She seems to think for a while. "There are some uncertainties involved, so I can unfortunately not be precise at the moment. But if we could count on a friend's support in court at a crucial time, that would certainly be welcome." A gentle, earnest nod. "In the best interests of the Empire and its continued harmony, of course, as that is ever the Crab's greatest hope."
