Ryusei's Champion had given him orders, and he was nothing if not dutiful.

So the young Phoenix, armed with the written permission of Ikoma Ryota, finally got to make use of one of the finest libraries in the Empire.

He was searching for a singular question- any legal precedent for the current succession "debate."

And dutifully and skillfully, with not a little help from his own mother's approach to organizing the libraries of House Shigi, he made considerable headway.

For a "debate," there is not precedent.

For contests regarding the succession, there are two. The more recent is Yugozohime dueling her brother. The elder is the selection of Hantei himself as Emperor.

So a duel, or series of duels, as sanctioned by the heavens... and given the Tournament of the Kami as a precdent, no champions permitted. Lady Doji and Lord Akodo alike took the field.

And even then, Togashi chose to sit it out.

But perhaps a wiser head would do the same in this case.

Gorobei and Tatsuya would be thrilled... Keihime would likely spontaneously combust... not sure about Noriko.

Curious that it should come down to swords.
