"Ah, that's not what I meant, Seppun-sama. It's just that you might possibly become the Emperor in the future, and I am... far below such a lofty position," she chuckles a bit, feeling somewhat at ease with the older man.

"... May I ask a question then, perhaps?" Sayomi offers, feeling that he might push it if she didn't request anything.

[Seppun Tomaru]

"Of course, Kitsu-san," Tomaru replies. "Though I may not ever sit the Throne."

[Kitsu Sayomi]

"I know. All is Heaven's will in the end," she agreed. Heaven did not always consider preferences.

"... When I spoke with the Lady Otomo Keihime, she seemed to be under the impression that you possessed destructive ideas for the future, if you were Emperor. I did not press her on this statement, but perhaps," Sayomi looked to Tomaru, "perhaps you would know why she would think so?"

"I could hardly fathom what such a person thinks," Tomaru replies with remarkable sincerity.

"But I have long held that more should be taught to read than are, so that more can be taught right thinking than are. Without a common guide, heterodoxy that might sometimes be productive turns too easily to heresy."

Sayomi visibly thought over the idea. From her experience, the more remote villages were lucky to have one or two that were literate enough to read messages, or write them. In some towns, there were boards with proclamations or news, but not all were able to read those either, relying on others reading them aloud.

"It is an intriguing idea," she says honestly, as the concept took root in her mind, "I don't know how such could be accomplished on a grand scale, but I like the concept, and the purpose it could serve. Winter time could be a good season for learning for many - as from my limited knowledge, there is much less work for the heimin to do then compared to the other seasons."

"Even samurai read more in the winter than other times," Tomaru agrees.

[Kitsu Sayomi]

"A season of introspection and peace, some would say," she chuckles softly, then shook her head. "I really can't see why that goal would be considered destructive. It's a noble wish to create more learned Empire."

[Seppun Tomaru]

"I think so," Tomaru says.

Then the hint of a crooked grin touches his face again.

"But then, I would."

[Kitsu Sayomi]

"Thank you, for answering my curiosity, Seppun-sama. I greatly appreciate knowing more about what the future could potentially hold." She bows deeply. "I shouldn't keep you much longer."

[Seppun Tomaru]

Tomaru returns the bow.

"It is a pleasure to know you, Kitsu-san," he says.

[Kitsu Sayomi]

"May the ancestors bless your day, Seppun-sama."
