[Day 4, LM, EVENT] The Liberation of Otomo Gorobei, Part V: Goromania
Posted: Thu Apr 25, 2024 1:12 am
The kitchens exit into the largely abandoned banqueting areas of the castle, the hallways of which echo with the clatter of geta and the swish of court robes as the Imperial Trio hustle down the hallway. The layers of ceremonial dress, compounded with the length of the journey and the speed of the undertaking, have begun to take their toll. Gorobei huffs and puffs as he struggles down the corridor.
The entourage enters the foyer of the Great Court, only to be stopped by the throng of Great Clan samurai. A rush of whispers arises like the sound of geese beating to wing from the surface of a chilly lake.
“It is the heir!”
“Lord Gorobei has come to stake his claim!”
“Lord Gorobei, say that you will train my son in the Way of the Sword!”
“Lord Gorobei! Marry my daughter! Give me grandbabies!!”
The sea of humanity will be difficult to navigate. Somebody must do something, or Otomo Gorobei will be stymied by his own legend!
A: The Heir is a Very Busy Man…
Someone’s got to get these people to see reason! If they love Gorobei, then they must let him go! Make a Courtier (Rhetoric)/Awareness roll, tn 25 to break through this temporary insanity.
Advantages: Benten's Blessing
B: *I’m* the Greatest! *I’m* Number One!
What do these people mean “Marry my daughter?” Surely everyone knows that it is you, not Gorobei, who is the greatest swordsman in the Empire! Make a Perform: Oratory/Awareness roll at TN 20. As the crowd turns to fawn on you, Otomo Gorobei will lose an amount of invested influence equal to your Glory rank, and you will gain Glory as though you have successfully bragged in public.
Advantages: Voice, Benten's Blessing
Disadvantages: Contrary
C: You Guys Need to Cultivate Some Standards.
These people are behaving abominably, and it is high time someone told them so. Make an Etiquette (Courtesy)/Awareness check at TN 25 to remind the crowd how a samurai is supposed to behave in public. You lose honor commensurate with a minor breach of etiquette (it is, after all, rude to publicly chide others for their rudeness), but you also avert a social disaster before it has a chance to get going.
