In the heat of the day, Otomo Gorobei paces in gardens. His countenance is stormy; the deep lines of his frown cut into his face. It is no surprise, of course; the events of the past two days have rocked him to the core. The death of the Empress has been followed by the worst possible news: an up-jumped ronin has appeared out of nowhere to outflank him in claims of swordsmanship and legitimacy. Son of an Emperor and a Kami indeed! But there is always something that can be done. A paper tiger such as this can be shown up for what he is by direct confrontation. But then, this Tatsuya surely must have killed before. What if…
Gorobei sighs, his shoulders slumping. This is going to take some thought.

Event Mechanics wrote: During the Late Afternoon and Early Evening timeslots, players may encounter Lord Gorobei and present their arguments as to whether he should challenge Tatsuya or leave the ronin well enough alone. Any number of players may contribute to this event.
If you wish to persuade Gorobei to fight Tatsuya, you can make a contested Courtier (Manipulation)/Awareness, Lore: Bushido/Intelligence, or Temptation/Willpower roll to do so. These rolls are against a TN of 20.
If you wish to dissuade Gorobei, you can make a contested Intimidation/Awareness, Lore: Politics/Intelligence, or Battle/Perception or Kenjutsu/Perception Roll at TN 20.
For the purposes of this event, all such rolls are considered Contested Social Skill rolls. If you are a Bushi, you may add your Ranks in Kenjutsu to your roll–Gorobei respects the opinion of a swordsman. Benten's Blessing applies.
Results: Both successes and any raises called will be totaled up and will decide Gorobei’s actions during the Winding Water Banquet.
