It was at that point that Lord Gorobei walked out onto the floor, drew himself up to his full height, and spoke:

"Friends, I'm hearing a lot of arguments about the fitness of the Four Temples, or the weakness of the Order of Osano-wo, or the perfidy of the clans. What I'm not hearing is the obvious. The Four Temples is fighting hard to keep the money. The Order of Osano-wo hasn't said they want it. Both suggest to me that they are poor stewards. Let's just give it all to the Miya and call it a day, huh?"

Miya Hachi frowns, looking from face to face, until he lands on Ryu...and sees the subtle nod. Well, what the hell, if it was important to him. One monk's as good as another.

"As kind as Lord Gorobei's suggestion is, I am afraid that the Miya are unwilling to take donations made in good faith from the Brotherhood. It is clear that the management of these donations should remain in the organization. I am not entirely sure how stipulating that money should be handled between one sect or another is an infringement of the Way--I think such arguments carry more than their share of hyperbole. Let the donations be administered by the Order of Osano-wo, and let that be an end to the matter. So much talk of money *is* unseemly."

Miya Hachi nods to Abbot Do and moves along.

"Is there any further business before the court?"

Yuna stepped forward again, and gave another deep bow to Miya Hachi..

"Miya-sama, I would like to propose an event for Day 13 of this court."

"One of the most important aspects of winter court is the marriages made, for they are foundational to the bonds between clans."

"To that end, I suggest we have a festival afternoon in honor of Musubi-no-Kami, the Fortune of Marriage that she may bless the marriages made. It can be an opportunity for art and performances on the topic of marriage. With other merriments like food and space for conversation and dance."

"The event can be a chance to also honor and thank the Imperial Matchmaker, Otomo Mariko-sama, for her role."

"Those offerings of an enduring nature - paintings, poems, calligraphy, sculpture, a written account of a story told, or a prayer recited, anything of a lasting nature - can be gifted to Musubi-no-Kami's largest temple in Otomo lands to be offered there."

[Proposal is for an event MA on D13, in the courtyard. Participants will be able to use any art or perform skill, or lore: theology to prepare a contribution.]

"Most esteemed Miya-ue, Imperial Herald of the Emerald Empire,

I would like to bring to this Court's appreciation a proposal for an agreement to strengthen the ties of friendship and collaboration between the Crab and our cousins in the Younger Clan of the Mantis.

In our continued effort to ensure the well-being and strong development of the Younger Clans of the Empire, we offer the Mantis [2 units] of equipment for their protection [=Arms] and [3 units] of sake. The Mantis, on their part, will gift to the Crab [4 units] of the superior-quality fish catch their Island home allows them.

To celebrate this agreement and our people's collaboration, we extend as a further gift to the Mantis an opportunity to work with our Kaiu smiths to produce one custom-made set of armour for one of their warriors. The Crab had been the first to sign a treaty with the Phoenix that season, and naval affairs were near and dear to Ryusei's heart.

And certain of the other kinds of sailing, but hey. All the more reason to weigh in as a friend.

If it please the members of the court, I would like to recognize the creativity and skill of those who took part in the Past Lives Picnic yesterday. Many beautiful and treasured pieces of art were displayed and tales both touching and cautionary offered.

Agasha Sanjuro, Agasha Yuna, Doji Shinnosuke, Kitsu Sayomi, Kitsu Shintaro, Kuni Shiori, Shiba Ryusei, Soshi Eiji, Yasuki Masaki, Yasuki Ryoichi participated in material ways, and the event could not have succeeded without them. I hope the rest of those attending found it a pleasant way to pass their time before the court session.

She glances a bit to one side. "Ahh...and if anyone noticed any odd or interesting emotions, memories, or sensations when handling the black and gold fan, Kitsu Shintaro-sama would appreciate hearing from you as he collects such data...err, tales. As would I"

[Yasuki Ryoichi]

Following Hoshiko and Shinnosuke's acknowledgement of the Past Lives event, Yasuki Ryoichi presented an ikebana arrangement to the Court. It was a sparse arrangement, with five flower buds; one of them had partly opened.

"A gift to the Court, and a reminder that although Winter is here, Spring will still come," the Yasuki said, bowing deeply.

“It’s my opinion that this is an extremely praiseworthy cause, and I would like to propose that the head of that Asahina delegation should be appointed to the position of Assistant Imperial Physician for Disease Treatment. This position would be charged with protecting the Imperial families - and, specifically, the next Emperor or Empress - against disease of all kinds, and otherwise promoting good practices for disease control."

Daichi's on was somehow kept firmly in place as Ryoichi proposed something quite daring especially given the late hour of the court. He couldn't quite let his own Clanmate get away with it, especially as it might spoil some of the talks currently underway with the Scorpion. Stepping forward he delivered the proper respect to the dias before speaking.

"While my cousin's zeal in bringing up such a matter as the protection of the future Emperor I believe we are left with little time this afternoon to fully discuss or truly judge this matter and the importance it holds to the Empire as a whole. I would like to propose to the court that we table this proposition for the day and address it again tomorrow when we have time enough to truly consider all the various options here."

"While I understand Hiruma-samas point, I feel this is a discussion that is a simple one to resolve. A position so close to the throne is one that needs careful selection. While I have no doubt in Asahina-samas skills, and I agree that this is a praiseworthy cause, the Hidden Guard are the ones that would need to select someone for such a position based on their criteria that they alone should decide. If they view Asahina-sama or even another as one that meets such criteria, then they should be the ones to appoint the person to such a position."

Masaki stepped forward again, most of her face covered with her blue-on-blue fan as her eyes went from Ryoichi to Honoka and then to Daichi with a nod before a deep bow to Miya Hachi.

"Miya-ue, if I may. Having received the chance to study among the Asahina, I couldn't agree more with Shiozaki Ryoichi-san's assessment of the family's preparation for a position such as the one he's suggesting - and the position of Assistant Imperial Physician might definitely be a boon to the Empire in generations to come. At the same time..."

She gestures towards Honoka. "I tend to agree with Ikoma-san that a position such as this would benefit from the input of the Seppun family and the Hidden Guard, related as it is to the Empire's safety. But more importantly.

She gestures towards Daichi now. "I feel obliged to concur with Hiruma-sama, in that a matter of such importance as this is one that would deserve more time for proper discussion. I would add to this that, given some recent rumours, further discussions about research on health preparedness are already underway that could bear an influence on such matters, so I would highly suggest we put off a discussion like this for tomorrow or the day before."

Another deep bow.

"I thank Miya-sama and the court"
