Jihen approached the court and bowed humbly until acknowledged.

“If it please the court… I wish to share a story of the efficacy of the Way in bringing peace…”

In the tranquil village of Kiyomizu, nestled between misty mountains somewhere in Rokugan, the people lived by the Way. The villagers were simple, their lives dedicated to honor, balance, and peace. Every morning, they gathered by the crystal-clear river that wound through their lands, offering thanks to the spirits for the abundance they received.

The rice fields stretched wide, lush and fertile, fed by the waters that flowed from the sacred peaks. The land seemed to thrive in harmony with the villagers’ practices. The elders spoke of the Way often—of patience, humility, and mindfulness in every task. Farmers worked with reverence, bowing to the earth as they planted and harvested. Artisans shaped pottery and crafted woodwork with meticulous care, each piece a reflection of their devotion.

When a samurai from the local town once visited, seeking counsel, he was astonished by the village’s prosperity. He asked their secret, expecting to hear of great wealth or powerful allies. The headman, a quiet man named Takashi, simply smiled and said, “We are rich in the spirit of the Way. What we need, we find in the land, the people, and the gods. Prosperity follows peace.”

The samurai left, his heart light, realizing that true wealth was found in living with honor.

Jihen bowed again and returned back to his place in the gallery.
