[Day 4, EA] Court: The Floor

[Kakita Hajime]

Hajime can barely stop himself from laughing.

"The Tortoise are, indeed, the Empress' prerogative, but perhaps we can all learn to extend each other a little grace, hm?"

"In any case, as Lord Mantis' point was extraneous to the treaty under consideration, and, while of interest to the court for all the interesting contours of his tale, is no impediment to its passage. Therefore, the court accepts this treaty--and the gift of the Crab."

He smiles, spreading his arms wide.

"Is there any further business before this court?

[Yasuki Masaki]

The Yasuki takes another step forward and bows deeply again to the dais and the Emerald Champion.

"Kakita-ue, if you allow us another word."

She looks towards where the Centipede delegation, nod-bowing towards them respectfully before continuing. "The Crab would like to ask the Imperial blessing to an agreement between the Crab and Centipede, showing our good will and support to people of the Valley of the Sun. This is meant as a gesture to further our relationships with the Empire's Minor Clans, ensuring that the Younger Clans keep strong, to the benefit of the Empire - as also exemplified by our previous deal with the Boar." Her gaze shifts to the representatives of the other Minor Clan at that point before going back to the dais.

"As a show of the goodwill involved in this agreement, the Crab would like to gift the Centipede [2 units] of iron and [1 unit] of sake, to ensure their rituals may continue unimpeded and and other needs for their strength and continued development are met. The Centipede in turn have offered to gift us [2 units] of rice and [1 unit] of Jade as a token to seal our cooperation and show their esteem for the Crab's sacred role in protecting the Empire. We are currently also discussing possibilities of marriages between our clans as a further step to strengthen the connections between our clans."

She bows deeply again and takes a step back.

"We are hearing much talk of potential marriages of late," Kakita Hajime observed, "but as Yasuki-san has affirmed that we will see the fruits of those negotiations shortly, I am sure that there is nothing impeding the recognition of this part of the agreement for that reason."

"Are there any who wish to comment upon this agreement?"

[Moshi Akane]

Moshi Akane steps forward.

"The Centipede delight in assisting the Children of Hida in this," she says, "and we look forward to welcoming new families under the light of day."

As she withdraws, however, the hem of her kimono catches underfoot, and though she does not fall, the misstep is...unfortunate.

[Shiba Ryusei]

Ryusei, whose player reealized he actually had two actions on a court that was almost over, rose in the wake of Akane's misstep.

"The arrangement is a good one- if the Centipede Clan and the Children of Hida can support one another in their duties, it is an admirable thing. Such cooperation strengthens the Empire."

He offered a bow to both Moshi Akane and to Yasuki Masaki.

"May we all benefit by the example."

The Agasha steps forward and bows deeply to the dais and the Emerald Champion.

"Kakita-ue, if you permit us a word."

Sanjuro looks towards the Mantis delegation and nods respectfully before continuing. "The Dragon would like to ask the Imperial blessing to an agreement between the Dragon and Mantis.

"As a of demonstration goodwill, the Dragon would like to gift the Mantis [2 units] of copper, [1 unit] of iron and [5 units] of stone to support their infrastructure needs. The Mantis in return, have offered to gift us [2 units] of dye and [6 units] of tea, to support the Dragon's livelihood and role in the Empire. We have also a marriage to propose as a further connection between our clans."

He bows deeply and steps back.

Ryusei stepped up again, since he could, being a bushi and all.

Like the Crab, the Dragon had been supportive, and if the Phoenix had no agenda items to advance that day, he could at least stand by presumptive allies.

"I no sooner speak on the example the Crab and Centipede provided than I find I have been anticipated. The arrangement between the Dragon and the Mantis sees to needs from the Great Wall of the North to the Isles of Silk and Spice. As a samurai from a coastal House, I find that most heartening."

And he felt a bit better about pouncing on the Crab's tea surplus, since the Dragon had found another supplier.

Masaki's eyes hinted at a smile behind her blue-on-blue fan as Ryusei spoke. When he was done, she took another slow, small step forward, bowing deeply for the third time.

"I would like to add my voice to Shiba Ryusei-san's in supporting this arrangement. The Dragon's desire to support the Younger Clans is one we hold close to our hearts, and we are happy to see the needs of our seafaring cousins met. That the Empire's naval capacities are strengthened as a result - the keen eyes, strong arms and wise heart mentioned here earlier today - is all the more reason for our support to this agreement."

(ooc, wanted to try getting this in Day 4, but online time is limited. No worries if too late to fly, GMs may delete and I'll set up for another day).

Hoshiko waited for a lull in the important business of marriages and trade to step forward again. "Another entertainment to schedule with the court, if I may, Kakita-Ue?"

"It is rare for the Crane to propose an uncommon sort of entertainment while the Dragon stick to classics, but such is the day." The amusement in her tone is at the situation, and no slight to their new allies in the Dragon.

"Among my studies, I have reason to find the theological teachings around the soul's travels, one life to another, ever learning, hopefully growing, to be some of the most fascinating." She pauses a moment letting the curious wonder where this could possibly be going. "But the court desires entertainment, not a theological lecture, right? Part of those lessons was to look at objects that have been passed down to us in a different light, considering what the person who held it had been like and where they might be when born into this realm again."

"In that spirit, I propose a light picnic before court on <Day 9>. Rather like a moon viewing in that we should have some interesting objects to ponder, write poems about, share our favorite tales of rebirth under this winter sun, rather than saving all such tales for the dark as we blow the candles out one by one." She looks around the court, or seems to, dark eyes finding something in all those faces. "Rather than chill ourselves with contemplation of going into the darkness, I wish to warm ourselves thinking of what it means to emerge back into the light."

Daichi took this moment to step forward on his own, supporting the Crane here might be wise given some of the things they needed to accomplish.

"It may be uncommon, but I believe it's a fine idea that Asahina-san has brought forward. Even if it might not be the sort of traditional entertainment the Crane usually would propose. It is another way after all we can learn about each other through the diversity of the stories we pass around. As well as witness how, similar we are through tales that represent our beliefs."

Ryu stepped forward once again. He could feel that his position in court was currently a good one, and he still had plenty left to give!

"Speaking again as a member of the Miyahara family and as a Crane, we would speak in support of the Dragon's proposal. The more connections that are forged, the stronger the peace that the Empress has demanded will be. And further, we support both the celebration of our traditions in this proposed marriage, and this healthy exchange between two well-respected Clans."

With his support given, he would step back... although he could still say plenty more, if he wished!
