Every good politico knows that art is politics by other means. While the good artists might wish to explore themes of love or nature, it is the solemn duty of the courtier to manipulate those themes to suit their agenda. Given the death of the Empress and the recent attempt on the ronin Tatsuya’s life, it would seem that the most pressing item on the court’s agenda should be the issue of the succession. And, glancing around the room, it would seem that there are ample opportunities to make a case for your favorite potential successor–or to slag off someone else’s.
This event takes the form of a bird’s-eye view of the many, many games of Sadane and attendant maneuvers that take place over the course of the show.
Procedure
1) Find a buddy or an adversary with whom you’d like to roleplay.
2) Together, choose one of the art displays. You may either choose an NPC-generated art display (see the examples in the Artist’s version of this event) or one created by a PC. If you choose the latter, make sure you check carefully with the player of that PC sharing your intentions for the piece. Please respect any qualms they may have–it will be easier to choose a different piece now than to make peace later, if you catch my meaning.
3) Having chosen your art, you and your buddy/adversary may engage in a game of Sadane [see the ‘What’s Sadane?!?’ explainer in the almanac section.] Make a separate thread for your conversation and exchange rolls of Games: Sadane/Awareness, beginning at TN: 10. The TNs will rise with each exchange until someone fails their roll. That is, both players will rol at TN: 10, then both at TN: 15, and so on.
Each Success earns you 1 Sadane point. Every raise called earns you an additional Sadane point.
4) Total your Sadane points. The winner of your match is the one with the higher number of Sadane points, which may not necessarily be the person who spoke last. The winner of the match receives 6 glory. The loser receives 3.
5) Your Sadane score will now be compared to that of all competitors. The overall highest score will receive an additional 8 Glory. The first two runners-up will receive an additional 6, the next two and additional 4, and the two after that an additional 2. Ties will be resolved by Status, then Influence, then Glory rank.
You may roll Courtier (Rhetoric)/Awareness at TN 25 to carefully embed a discussion of your favorite Wind in your criticism of the art. If you do so, you may donate more than half of your glory earned to that Wind.
