The Kitchens of Kyuden Ikoma are a 24-hour service. While they do not produce the greatest and best food in the Empire, they sure do produce a lot of it. Hundreds of cooking stations allow a small army of chefs to keep the servants, guards, and nobles of Kyuden Ikoma fed. During the Official Meal Times (EM, MA, ME), the Kitchens are working flat-out to serve the demand from the Banquet Hall. The Night Watch is fed by delivery in the MN hour. About that time, elements of the Miharu tend to converge on the kitchens for their sole delight: personalized snacks from the palace staff.
At other times, individuals or small groups may order food from the kitchens to be delivered anywhere on the palace grounds (except the guest areas of the dojos. No guests eat in the dojos.). The Kitchens are happy to comply with dietary restrictions and special requests, but there is an upper limit on their ability to produce of haute cuisine, and most of that gets delivered straight to the Imperial Apartments, so a wise samurai will keep their requests fairly pedestrian.
