A Letter to Agasha Sanjuro

The following is written on relatively plain paper, but in an exquisite hand--and familiar, in the event:
Classmate,

It was good to see reports that you had been assigned to this year's Court at Kyuden Ikoma. There is always relief in knowing that those alongside whom one has studied and with whom one shares bonds therefore will be present. On which note, I should add that another of our classmates appears to have been invited to the Court, as well, and one who claims as a friend one who flies close to the moon. Isn't that exciting?

I remember from the dojo that you had some concerns about particular footwear. I can sympathize with such concerns, as I believe you will recall; such things affect balance, and I have had to be greatly concerned with balance. I wonder if we can't work together at Court to put us both back on firmer footing. It seems as good a place as any to do that kind of thing, and there are other Fortunes who might be importuned for assistance with their comrades.

I'll hope things go better for us this time around than that one time with Toji-kohai. It took me weeks to regrow my eyebrows, and he still doesn't have the full use of that finger, last I heard.

One other thing: if you've had any news of your cousin, Nishimura Ayamari, please let me know. Great things are expected of him, and I'd really like to know if any of them are going yet.

All best,

Ozawa Kichinitonda

This letter appears on ivory paper in a practiced familiar hand, bound by a green ribbon.

Good Classmate,

It is indeed favorable news that we will meet again at court this winter. Your thoughtfulness abounds and we share like concerns for proper balance. I look forward to encountering your presence again and forging new relationships together.

As to Nishimura Ayamari, last we met he was studying to perfect his family's technique. He spoke poetically of grand visions of pure metals and grain in the clouds and across the lands. He promised to unveil the clouds as his journey progresses. Let us pray his focus is rewarded and we see the floret of his guiding before the days grow long.

Health and prosperity upon your house.

Respectfully,

Agasha Sanjuro
