This letter is written in broad, looping strokes bespeaking vigor and excitement.

Tani-san,

I am overjoyed to hear that Lady Doji has approved my request for your appointment to the Crane Delegation for this year's Winter Court. I believe strongly that your art and style will make a great difference in the clan's fortunes. In fact, you may be a much-needed reminder to an Empire in crisis that the soul endures when nourished by the great art the Crane provide. There is many a gloomy Gus out there in the Empire sowing dreams of gloom, but with a little honest effort and the right people in the right place (which I think we've got!), I can't help but feel that everything's going to come out right in the end.

Please, do not forget that we are all wishing you the very best! I have a great feeling about this year's court! Keep in touch!!

With sincere affection,
Asahina Junpei
Daimyo of the Asahina

The scroll the reply arrives on has been extensively decorated.

Asahina-dono,

I must offer my profuse thanks for the honour of gracing the Divine Daughter's Court this Winter that you have secured for me. My heart leaps and I find much inspiration for new pieces at just the thought of attending such an august gathering. So much that my assistants here find it difficult to keep up with the materials I require!

I shall endeavour to bring a little of the light and warmth of Amaterasu to the crisp chill of Winter so it might dispel a little of the gloom that lurks in the corners.

Please forgive the rather rushed ornamentation of this missive, I am rather taken up with all the preparations for my journey to Kyuden Ikoma.

May the Heavens guide us,

chop of Asahina-ke no kashin Tani Minase

The reply is a package delivered by courier. Within, a dozen pots, 9 filled with dyes of unusual colors, and then 3 with the primary colors. In addition, a dozen brushes and a note:
