A letter for Soshi Eiji

Soshi-san,

You will not know me, but your mother was my mother's sister, making us cousins. Your mother wrote to mine recently; as a result, I understand that we will be attending Winter Court together at Kyuden Ikoma. You should know that there will be people here who disapprove of the blood we share, Shimomura Shigehiko foremost among them. I wonder, will kinship, distant as it may be, allow us to reach out across the divisions between our clans and combine against a mutual enemy? If so, please make time for me early in court. I think we have much to offer one another.

Sincerely,
Ikoma-ke no kashin Kamoshita Kinuyo

Dear cousin,

My congratulations on your invitation to this court; for having moved into the clan of whispers, I had not heard that one....though some would argue that my tendency to speak from the heart means I am simply too loud to hear them.

It is most distressing to hear that Shimomura Shigehiko's desire for revenge blinds them to Musubi-no-kami's traditions. I took off the gold and brown to don the red and black; there was a whole ceremony with witnesses and everything. Though I will admit that my heart stiill pumps the same blood it has since my birth.

I think, as a show of piety to Musubii-no-kami, that it would be only proper to meet early in the court to discuss how this transgressor must be taught the folly of his ways. If Happy Wife, Happy Life, then Happy Kami, Happy.......well, I'm sure I needn't go on.

To our rapidly approaching meeting,

Soshi-ke no kaishin Miura Eiji
