The first session of the Imperial Winter Court is now open.

[Daidoji Sae]

Sae is if anything slightly early to proceedings, professional courtesy demands a quick survey of the room for security's sake, but the Seppun had things more than in hand.

Torn between appearing as a Crane and as a Magistrate (with both her lords in the same room after all) she's opted for a sea blue kimono with an emerald spheres decorating the arm which would hold her sword.

For now she's content to sit back and observe, wondering quietly who would be brave enough to speak after that opening.

[Asako Kenichi]

Kenichi was in his finery, listening to the spectacle before him with curilsity. Undecided where to approwch for now, he waited.

Scratching a bit behind his mask, Eiji had made his way to the court. The oaths upon the floor were very theatric, but Eiji did wonder abit about their necessity. Though it WOULD be interesting if after those oaths the Empress refused to name an heir and just keep on living. Or died in secret with her offcials concealing the death and enforcing a peace for an age. It was incredibly unlikely, but somewhere there'd be a Scorpion playwright with such a tale.

But the theatrics about the throne were for the big names of the court. And as much as Eiji would have loved to be held in such regard, he'd be lucky to be an attendance footnote. Still, even the little names have to work.

He looked about for someone to have a conversaton with, and caught sight of Phoenix colors.

Hmm, is that who Gorobei was gossiping about? he wondered.

Intigued, he approached the Phoenix, looking to see if he'd be interested in having a side conversation.

[Daidoji Ryu]

Ryu wore a modest kimono in Crane blue. As a samurai of relatively low status, it wasn't his job to stand out, so it was only modestly designed; simple blues with simple patterning in white.

He waited, watching and listening, his expression neutral.

Jihen also attended court this day.

Happy to observe and watch as the events of the day unfolded.

He was pleased by the opening vows given by the heads of the clans... And pondered on the need for such a thing.

[Shiba Ryusei]

Ryusei was, naturally present, and depending on how a thread a day earlier went, might even have business before the court, but for now...

He was dressed in his best, naturally, and stood near the more general area of the Phoenix delegation.

At the Empress' command to the daimyo,, since he was of course bowed all the way to the floor, he let himself smile.

They would miss her when she was gone. No threats, no coercion, at least until a successor was named.


Upon rising, he browsed the gallery, nodding to any familiar friendly faces.

And then the Crane proposed a fairly harmless diversion- it honestly sounded like a lot of fun- only for some Imperial Daimyo to piss all over it using technicalities.

Ryusei debated lending his support to the Crane's motion, but wasn't entirely sure that was how he wanted to make his debut before the dais...

[Asahina Hoshiko]

Hoshiko arrived in good time to see all the action below. In honor of her place among the Crane and the start of such an influential court, she wore a full layer of brilliant Crane blue, visible at the hem and collar of an outer kimono of merely sapphire blue, a positively bright shade for her. The embroidery about the hems did feature blue and white cranes among stylized winter waves.

Her hand flew to her chest, eyes wide at the Empress's demand and filled with a heartfelt awe. One little pacifist heart was overjoyed at a demand for less potential bloodshed.

[Agasha Yuna]

Agasha Yuna is present at the court.

Today, she is wearing an emerald green kimono with thread-of-gold embroidery depicting a range of mountains rising across the kimono against a skyline of stars along her shoulders. She has a matching fan, green and gold, with the mountain and star motif. Her hair and cosmetics are expertly arranged.

She takes her place with Togashsi-ue, standing on the side closer to Shiba Higashime and Chou-sin.

She bows with great reverence and courtesy at every appropriate time.

She nods at the Empress' words supporting peace, and the Daimyo's show of support, finding it all earnest and beautiful.

[Shiba Ryusei]

Yuna was.... distracting.

Focus, Ryusei, you're here to do a job, and besides, you're meeting her later, you and she no doubt has other things to do with her time than having you hang around her like a shadow....

Also, at present, the scene at the dais was turning into a spectacle of Otomo versus Crane, which was... unseemly.

Ryusei knew his father, nursed on ancient House grudges, would have wished the Crane in general and the Daidoji in particular into the heart of Jigoku, but...

But I like Shinnosuke, and that prick's reasoning is absolutely absurd. It's blatant antagonism for its own sake.

Ryusei closed his fan and looked around.

Might be better to let someone from a Clan that wasn't in the Gozoku speak up first, though...

[Doji Arai]

Doji Arai is seated among the Crane delegation in a perfect seiza. The young warrior watches the proceedings of court unfold with interest and from time to time looks around her discreetly so as to be aware of her surroundings.

[Ikoma Honoka]

Honoka had made sure to arrive to this court as early as possible - it would not do to be late to the first day of court! You would miss all the action!

Wearing a fine kimono of yellow with simple flower patterns down the arms, she found a place to observe and for now just watched. Paying respects when required such as the Empress herself speaking. Listening to the words with little reaction as the big names of the empire spoke their words.

So the status quo continues huh? And the players are in place...

And now a debate on art, but specifically acting. Honoka looked on thoughtfully, and considered her options...

"Soshi-san, I gather? This one is Asako Kenichi, of House Ito. Diplomat of the Phoenix to the Lion, and...guest of Kyuden Ikoma."

[Isawa Ebiko]

Ebiko stood amongst the Phoenix delegation in her fine red and orange kimono, parchment and charcoal in hand, ready to take notes as soon as it was appropriate.

Daichi's position here was something like, tall man with razor blade. Which generally meant he wouldn't be doing much speaking at court. That didn't mean you didn't show up though. Dressed in his finest, he stood off to the side, leaving him open to keep an eye on the more politically minded members of the clan to do their work.

He is quietly approached by a monk who bows in deference to the samurai.

"Excuse me of my rudeness, would you happen to be Shiba Ryusei-sama?"

[Shiba Ryushi]

Wandering about the court Shiba Ryushi. They wore a nice kimono and a shamisen on their back. He knew that there were going to be musicians among the delegations and perhaps they could join together and play for someone. None in particular at this time.

[Doji Noriko]

The rear doors opened to herald the arrival of a pair of Seppun escorting a woman clad in simple blue and gold, though the fluidity of her movement and the way the light from the high windows in seemed to reach her, eliminating shadow and throwing her beauty into shining relief could only mean that she was born for this stage.

And indeed she was, for Doji Noriko, 1st Cousin to the Empress and Lady Doji, had entered the room humbly enough, and shone all the brighter for it.

She bowed formally, once to the dais, once to Ikoma Ryota, a third time to Lady Doji, and then descended the steps to mingle with the crowd, another star in a growing firmament,
