"There is a story that me and my sister were told one winter when the cold wind put out many fires in the castle, and storytelling was the only way to stave off the shivering of our limbs. One of my direct ancestors gave his life for his daimyo, but it was not in a duel or during some great battle. The daimyo was hunting in the mountains when the earth shifted in its sleep and sent snow and rock to fall on him and his honor-guard. My ancestor was the greatest hunter of his age and spent two days combing the cliffs before he pulled the daimyo free. He carried him for another day to the nearest settlement in freezing rain, saving the daimyo's life but losing his own as he collapsed into a coma and died soon after seeing to the daimyo's treatment." Jinkan finished his telling with a smile that wouldn't light up a Denny's parking lot.

"I think I spent the next few weeks thinking each new cold spell would be the end of me. Not the intended moral, as we were supposed to learn that other people who had it worse did better."

The Doji offers another bow, to the Soshi this time. "Well, I am an avid sadane player, but I find it quite impossible to comment on a piece of art without using book and especially fish references." She attempts a small joke and she makes a theatrically exaggerated inquisitive face. "We will have to fall to safe path of honest assessment and poetic words."

She looks at the Soshi and then back at the other woman. "Yasuki san's kimono is a work of art. The delicate patterns and vibrant colors are as intricate as the strokes of calligraphy on a parchment, capturing a tale that resonates through generations. Beauty!"

She keeps looking at her and smirks. "The fluid drape mimics the graceful motion of a koi fish gliding through still waters. Serene, purposeful, and elegant."

Her eyes then shift to the Soshi, and there's some seriousness in them. Affected? Maybe, but serious they looked.

"But I'm afraid for Soshi-san's game, the last - and most artful! - part of Doji-san's account is still forbidden, ne? Although Doji-san may still win with her first part!"

She looks at the Soshi. "Given Doji-san hasn't chosen her words, I'll suggest some myself. But with a twist! Could Soshi-san describe Doji-san today without using words directly related to 'books', 'birds', or the 'wind'?"

Her eyes shift to the Doji again. The seriousness in her eyes half turned to a smile again. "Is that suitable for your challenger, Doji-san?"

It was Eiji's turn to smile. While he would have been satsfied to not play, he certainly wasn't one to turn down a challenge.

"Oho, so those are the words you would use to describe Doji-san, Yasuki-san? They were, in fact, the furthest from my mind when considerng her outfit." he said, confidently.

"No, no, if I were to liken Doji-san's appearance to anything, it would be to a waterfall. See how her dark hair shimmers to almost a shade of blue in the lamplight? How it cascades gracefully from the top of her hairstyle, framing her face as if she were a water spririt revealing herself to you on a moonlit night? As we go down, the water intensifies and flows into her lovely kimono. It is a force, a beautiful force. The sort of thing that would test a monk's resolve." he offered.

As he spoke he gestures with his fan, slowly panning it down as the descrption moved down, before finally snapping it closed to punctuate the description.

He looked to the pair curiously, fish and waterfall, to see what they thought of that.

Arai's face is one of mischief. "I can understand books and the wind, but why do we avoid birds? My nose is fine, far from being called a beak, thank you very much. That's fishy, at least." It is obvious that she jokes.

Next she listens to the Scorpion's words carefully. "Oh thank you, Soshi san. I have never been told before that I look as if washed away by the waves. So eloquently. You know how to flatter a lady, for sure." She keeps kidding and grins to make it obvious.

"Does that leave us with Soshi sama's attire, my banned words and Yasuki sama's description?" she seems playfully pensive for a few heartbeats. "Please, use books, fish and birds, if I'm allowed to play around the rules."

There was a small chuckle at the children comment. "I can't say I had such strange ideas as fears of the cold, but my mother told me I was far too energetic so maybe I didn't think too much on it all. I would say it's more an overactive imagination but then an active mind is a creative mind, ne? And if it meant you were more respectful of natures potential then it allowed you to learn a good lesson. "

Peaceful was not something he'd call his duties, but no real need to bring that up. Instead he nodded as the topic shifted. "You've got the right of that. While we do have our share of woods, I don't think they compare to the great forests of the phoenix."

"Certainly right, Hiruma-sama. We do have a surplus of lumber, which might be able to be used for construction purposes. Besides that, we do have some rice not needed, alongside paper and jade as well. Would perhaps he Crab be interested in that?" He eyed the gathering, but didn't say a thing.

Jinkan returned the raise and sipped his own in turn. "Heh. You seem to have kept the energy of your adolescence then, I would have noticed you shining from across the room if I had not been so fortunate as to bump into you. Though I defer to you on matters of creativity, and nature's lessons. I am no great samurai to learn from my mistakes."

"But before the night is over, I would request that you give me a local's perspective on where one should eat and drink while staying here. I can pay you in cryptic advice, koans, or riddles." He smiled drinking in the shadows that it drew to his face.

"Hmm, well if you would prefer to engage in meals outside of the main castle as provided by the Ikoma there are a number of places in Ikoma's eye which you'll see the moment you leave the main gate. A large market, many houses, leading down to the port. The Copper Hills teahouse is known as one of the best teahouses in the area, with a confectionary store attached to it. In terms of food, the Inn of the Golden Mane has a small and quiet but very welcoming small restaurant attached to it. I would recommend those."
