Ikoma Tanji takes a moment to look at what's in the other side of the door from here, attempting to come up with polite responses, all while giving the kid enough distance for plausible deniability. He then walks in as if he belongs and closes the door behind him. He is careful of the noise as he walks in. (etiquette to walk in and blend in?)

Around Tanji, the work of sorting and cataloging manuscripts proceeds apace. Several dozen, children and adults, pore briefly over works, making notes on other sheets, furling, unfurling, stacking, reading, writing, and talking together in a cacophony of voices and jargon that dizzies the senses. Tanji is regarded as just another new face, another new worker to be given scrolls and set to finding the right places for them all.
