[D4, EM] Reviewing deals with Togashi-ue [Dragon only]

Yuna had prepared detailed records of all potential deals under consideration. It was time to review with Togashi-ue.

She made her way to the central meeting space at the early morning time they had chosen, and looked for the other delegates who had been active in discussing potential trade deals.

And for Togashi-ue.

Best to have a clear understanding before court today. At least one potential trade partner wanted to present the deal today, if all were in agreement.

She was nervous and excited. Some of these deals meant a great deal to her.

[Mirumoto Kichinitonda]

In keeping with his role as a clerk, Kichinitonda has set up to record events.

It may be presumed that his pen-hand is as fine and regular as usual as he makes prefatory notes with the annotation that "One wonders how it will affect Nishimura Ayamari."

[Togashi Mizohachi]

Lord Togashi stepped into the room and took a seat. "We have made progress?" he asks.

Yuna smiled.

"We have indeed. Three deals that I think are potentially ready to sign-off, pending your input. And four additional deals still taking shape, but that would benefit from discussion and decision how to proceed."

"I have kept a ledger of the resources available, and those committed by the deals closest to approval, so we can consider how best to use what will be left."

"Let's start by looking at the Crane deal." She circulates a document outlining the precise trade proposed:

"Mirumoto Jinkan-san identified this opportunity. We made sure it extended into a second year, as was important to our priorities."

"The Crane would like to bring this deal to court today while Kakita-sama is facilitating court, if we can confirm sign-off, or any last modifications we would like to discuss prior."

Crane Deal

Crane to sell: 15 Rice, formal alliance between clans. Deal includes that they will provide 15 rice again next year, also.

Dragon to sell: 4 gold, 3 jade, 5 arms, 1 marriage (Crane into Dragon), 1 Dragon only spiritual commodity (specifically a wise answer to a problem.)

Dragon marriage candidate: Agasha-ke no kashin Hasegawa Kinzo (Male, Status 4, age 27). Hasegawa Kinzo is Gazan’s twin brother and a junior magistrate stationed at Kyuden Agasha.

Crane marriage candidate: Kakita-ke no kashin Iida Choko (Female, Status 3, age 21) The second daughter of her branch of the massive Iida family, Iida Choko is a senior yoriki to the Emerald Magistrate of South Hub village.

"This marriage is quite favorable. Yes, and I believe that having less pressure for rice early in court next year will be a great boon. I see no problem with this deal."

"Excellent. I will let them know."

"The next deal to consider is the Phoenix deal."

"I hope you will find this deal satisfactory. I am pleased by the thought of the marriage."

"I did want your advice if the agreement to support each other's initiatives is something that should be part of the formal deal or simply an agreement. I think we are best served, if we do include it formally and announce it, to simply say "support for each other's initiatives as discussed'. I don't think we want to call out our economic concept before we've had time to discuss it with other clans."

Phoenix deal

The Phoenix will provide:
4 units of lumber
3 units of paper
A blessing of crops that would make Dragon rice increase next season [next year production increases by 4]
Blessing of Shiba RIyusei marriage to Agasha Yuna to seal the deal. Yuna marries into the Phoenix.

The Dragon can provide:
2 gold
4 iron
4 silver
3 stone
Blessing of Agasha Yuna's marriage to Shiba RIyusei to seal the deal. Yuna marries into the Phoenix.

In addition, they are open to:

Phoenix support Dragon initiative important to Daimyo (rice standard / gold standard proposal)
&
Dragon support Phoenix initiative important to Daimyo (imperial library run by Phoenix in Otosan Uchi)

And one other marriage:

Marriage of Phoenix female shugenja skilled with the earth kami marriage candidate into the Dragon, with the following notes:
1) She is given the opportunity to study at House Ageki with the family and scholars there, and learn about their great work and vow
2) At the end of six months, she can agree to take the vow and marry the heir Ageki Riku. Or, she can declare that the vow is not for her, and a marriage will be arranged to another equivalent status Agasha shugenja in another House.

"I believe if you announce it even in that guarded way, that you will have to endure a great deal of questioning about what that entails. Much better to keep it in the back pocket and then announce it as a multi-lateral, rather than a bi-lateral deal.'

"So, keep it an agreement between us needing no mention in the marriage deal. That makes sense to me. I appreciate your advice."

"With that adjustment, do we have your approval to proceed?"

[Agasha Sanjuro]

Sanjuro has joined the gathering after bowing deeply to Togashi-ue and less so and still respectfully to his fellow delegates.

He nodded in agreement with Agasha Yuna regarding the advice.

"So, keep it an agreement between us needing no mention in the marriage deal. That makes sense to me. I appreciate your advice."

"As the Little Teacher says: “In order to choose the correct path, you must know the pitfalls that await you.”

"With that adjustment, do we have your approval to proceed?"

"I see no problem with the marriage. It is the economic policy that I am concerned about. It is quite radical, and needs a broader base of support, I fear."

[Agasha Yuna]

"Very good." Her heart was hammering in her chest. She wanted to sing, to dance! She had permission for the marriage! Now, they just needed to speak to the Imperial Matchmaker.

But her tone remained flat and professional.

"I will let the Phoenix know that we are fine to proceed with the trade exchange and marriages, and not to reference the initiatives yet. It has been helpful to speak with them about our idea. They are helping me shape the presentation of it, and to anticipate possible objections."

"Next, we have a deal with the Sparrow."

She paused, looking at Mirumoto Kichinitonda-san.

"Mirumoto-san, this one has an opportunity for you."

"The deal is that the Sparrow will provide 7 vegetables. The Dragon will provide 2 stone and 2 copper. And this Sparrow will be sealed with two marriages."

She paused before detailing the marriages.

"That is, um, a lot of veg-vegetabables," comes Kichinitonda's stammer.

His brush, however, does not stop moving.

She nodded. "It finishes our food requirements. It assures that all of our people have enough to eat. And an enduring relationship will give us long term access."

"They have a young man, a musician and reliable administrator in minor office, aged 20. He can marry our young Mirumoto-ke no kashin Toda Yoshiko just appointed the manager of the hereditary estate of the Grand Master of Niten, and become a Dragon. I think that's a choice Lord Mirumoto-sama will appreciate for her."

"And they have a highly acclaimed storyteller. A woman. Niitaka-san. She is 24 years old, as esteemed as a magistrate. I suggest she marry Mirumoto Kichinitonda, our equally acclaimed calligrapher. This would be a marriage into the Sparrow. The Sparrow are open to a calligrapher in their lands playing a new role documenting the never previously documented Sparrow stories, and sending the records to a library in Dragon lands with a shelf dedicated to that purpose, as a sign of enduring alliance between clans. I could make arrangements for that in the Izaku library."
